MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The U.S. is now on day 30 of the government shutdown.
As a result of the shutdown, food assistance is expected to come to a stop across all Mid-South states in just two days, leaving hundreds of thousands of families scrambling to find food.
"It's bad. It's bad," said Mary Norman, an Oakland resident.
Norman did not sleep in the comfort of her home Wednesday night.
The 78-year-old slept in her car, wrapped in her comforter, in the parking lot of Advent Presbyterian Church on Germantown Parkway for a mobile food pantry distribution.
"Doesn't matter how cold it is. I just wrap up and come on out," she said.
She is one of hundreds who showed up at the church to gather enough food to feed their families.
