CHICAGO (WLS) -- A father who was detained by federal immigration agents in the suburbs while his daughter fights cancer was given release on bond at a hearing Thursday.

Ruben Torres Maldonado has been in custody since earlier this month.

His 16-year-old daughter is undergoing cancer treatment, family members said.

He was detained in Niles.

Immigration Judge Eva Saltzman set a $2,000 bond Thursday.

Torres Maldonado was ordered released either Thursday or Friday.
