WINDSOR LOCKS, CT (WFSB) - Avelo flights from Bradley International Airport to Jamaica were canceled on Thursday.

An Avelo spokesperson told Channel 3 that Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay was closed to commercial flights as a result of Hurricane Melissa.

The airline said all affected customers were notified.

Melissa hit Jamaica on Tuesday as a category 5 hurricane. It tied strength records for Atlantic hurricanes.

People had just begun to clear blocked roads and highways in the country on Wednesday night.
