Mind the gaps!

A passenger’s laptop dropped through the passenger cabin into the cargo bay, forcing a United Airlines flight bound for Rome to return to Washington Dulles International Airport in Virginia.

“We have a minor situation here with a passenger who has somehow dropped a laptop that was on … down the sidewall into the cargo pit area of the airplane,” one of the pilots told Air Traffic Control (ATC) when they were notified.

Data from Flightradar shows that a United Airlines Boeing 767-400ER made an unusual U-turn right off the coast of Boston less than an hour into the eight-hour flight on October 15.

The laptop, which was lithium-ion powered, presented a safety concern to the other passengers, since it fell near a sensitive area of the plane.
