EVANSVILLE, Minn. — In early September 1903, Herman Neitzel bought a train ticket from his hometown of Evansville, Minnesota to Melrose, Minnesota — a journey of about 50 miles.
He never reached his destination.
Neitzel's mangled body was found near Sauk Centre, Minnesota. As there was no money found with him, foul play was suspected in some quarters.
But the story doesn't end there.
Several weeks later a series of articles were published that reported railroad section crews had encountered Neitzel's ghost on the tracks.
