LA FERIA, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The La Feria News is shutting down after 102 years in business.

The newspaper announced Wednesday that it will shut down at the end of the month. The paper has served the La Feria community since 1923.

The paper's publisher, Landon Jennings, said it's been hard to bring in revenue ever since the pandemic. The only choice was to close operations.

"It's sad to see newspapers go away because, as they are this public source of information, you hear about it being the fourth branch of government or the fourth state, the press, and keeping people informed of what their local governments are doing," said Jennings.

In a front-page message, the staff says they are proud to be a source of information and a platform for community engagement.
