Louisiana governor Jeff Landry says he’d rather let Donald Trump pick LSU’s next football coach than the school’s athletic director.
LSU AD Scott Woodward, a Baton Rouge, La. native and LSU graduate, has a reputation for flashy - and expensive - hires at several of his stops.
He hired Jimbo Fisher as the football coach at Texas A&M and that ended up costing the school about $77.5 million in a buyout in 2023. In 2021, Woodward hired Brian Kelly to be the head football coach at LSU, which has now cost the school $54 in a buyout.
That’s about $132 million total in buyouts for the same AD at two different schools.
“We are not going down a failed path,” Landry said in a news conference on Wednesday. “I wanted to tell you something — this is a pattern. The guy (Woodward) that’s here now
