SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. — Officials say there were no injuries reported on Thursday when a fighter jet had to return to Shaw Air Force Base due to a mechanical issue.
A spokesperson for Shaw said an F-16 assigned to the 20th Fighter Wing at the air base had a mechanical issue around 9:30 a.m. while on a training mission.
Officials said the jet landed safely on a runway back at Shaw Air Force Base and engaged an arresting cable, which is designed to assist aircraft in decelerating, often seen on aircraft carriers where space is limited.
Officials said no other aircraft were involved.
