Sarnia-Lambton had an abnormally severe bout with influenza in 2024-25.
The area saw 64 confirmed cases during the typical October-May flu season, said public health supervisor Carshenan Lai.

“It was a high-severity flu season,” she said.
COVID-19 cases also were up during the same time period, with 319 including nine COVID-19 related deaths, four in 2024, five in 2025, she said.
Data for flu-related deaths wasn’t available.
“This year’s COVID and flu case counts are expected to be lower,” Lai said.
Based on the recent May-October influenza season in places such as Australia, a milder season is expected this year in Canada, Lai said.
Ontario this week opened free flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinics at participating pharmacies for anyone six months and older.
