COLUMBUS, Ohio - Republican Ohio State Representative Dave Thomas has introduced legislation that would require businesses and government entities throughout Ohio to accept cash as a payment method.
House Bill 554, otherwise known as the Currency Access to Spend Here (CASH) Act, would require businesses and government entities to provide at least one point of sale that accepts cash for transactions of $500 or less.
If passed, the legislation would only require one cash-accepting register or payment option at each location.
This legislation is similar to a bipartisan bill introduced in Congress by Pennsylvania Democratic U.S. Senator John Fetterman and North Dakota Republican U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer.
