DEFIANCE — High school seniors can earn a debt-free bachelor’s degree under a newly expanded program at Defiance College.
To be eligible for the 1850 Promise program, students must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher, and qualify for the Ohio College Opportunity Grant through the Free Application for Student Financial Aid. In addition, program guidelines say, they must maintain commuter status and be a permanent resident of one of 11 northwest Ohio counties: Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Henry, Fulton, Lucas, Putnam, Paulding, Van Wert, Williams or Wood.
“There is no deadline to apply for 1850, however we encourage students to complete their FAFSA as soon as possible,” said Alan Bostelman, the college’s director of marketing and public relations.
Defiance was founded in 1850 as Defiance Female Semi
