VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. (WIAT) — A package that had been brought to the Vestavia Hills Police Department that had been feared to be some kind of explosive device has been cleared by the department.

Capt. Michael Keller confirmed that just before 11:10 a.m. Thursday, a homeowner had brought a package to the station that they believed to be "a suspicious item." According to Keller, the person found the package on their front door while they were remodeling their home.

"We’re going to always err on the side of caution if we have a suspicious package," Keller said. "We’re not going to take anything for granted because we have the public to protect."
