The Colorado Avalanche have signed star forward Martin Necas to an eight-year extension, with an $11.5 million average annual value. The new contract extension was first reported by Elliotte Friedman. The contract is $500K less annually than former Avalanche Mikko Rantanen signed for with the Dallas Stars.

The star forward has found his home in the NHL. This is after being acquired by the Avalanche in a blockbuster three-way trade that involved Mikko Rantanen heading to the Dallas Stars last season. Since then, Necas has been a perfect winger alongside Nathan MacKinnon on one of the strongest lines in the NHL. With the salary cap continuing to increase in the next few years, this contract has the potential to age very well for the Avalanche.
