Footage from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) shows a flight crew experiencing intense turbulence while collecting data from the eye of Hurricane Melissa as the massive storm swept across the Caribbean Sea.

The NOAA's Aircraft Operations Center captured video of "Hurricane Hunters" aboard a Lockheed WP-3D Orion aircraft, Kermit, as it was buffeted by winds near the storm's eye on Monday.

A similar situation arose when the U.S. Air Force Reserve's 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron experienced so much turbluence that the crew was forced to turn back on Tuesday.
