NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University has confirmed it laid off dozens of staff members amid financial pressures.

A university spokesperson said 46 full-time employees, representing 5.8% of the full-time workforce, were affected. Their statement did not specify which departments were impacted.

The spokesperson explained that the decision was made to “ensure the institution’s long-term financial health, continued support of student success, and ongoing commitment to our mission”

“Those affected by this restructuring have contributed greatly to the life of the university, and we are committed to assisting them through this transition with compassion, respect, and available support resources,” the spokesperson added.
