Chiu Man Yuen was originally charged with aggravated assault in connection with an Oct. 21, altercation at a McDonald's parking lot

The elderly Calgary man charged with manslaughter in the death last week of a fellow senior has been granted bail on conditions which include he have no contact with family of his alleged victim.

Defence counsel Rebecca Snukal appeared in Calgary Court of Justice Thursday on behalf of Chiu Man Yuen.

Snukal told Justice Bruce Fraser her client was unable to appear via CCTV as he was in a Calgary Remand Centre unit under COVID-19 quarantine.

But the lawyer said she and Crown prosecutor James Doran reached an agreement to allow Yuen to return to the community pending trial in his case.
