Heartbroken farewell
Eventer Chance Encounter, who with Robbie Kearns helped Ireland to European team silver last month, has died aged 16. The Irish gelding, whom Robbie owned with Belline Estate Equestrian, was treated in hospital for colic and sepsis but could not be saved. Belline Estate’s Richard Ames, who bought “Harry” as a three-year-old, said the team was devastated by his loss. Robbie told Harry was “my best mate for the last three years”. “Even though I only met him a few years ago, it was like I knew him my whole life,” he said. “I can’t quite put into words how much he meant to me.”
