CICERO, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) -- The Town of Cicero Police Department has welcomed two furry friends to the force as the newest members of the First Responder Dogs Program.
Chief Steve Rotunno's golden retrievers, Chloe and Wally, have officially clocked in for duty and will provide emotional support as trained therapy dogs.
Rotunno recruited his five-year-old pups to help assist first responders who work in emergent and sometimes tragic situations.
"Whether it's a bad car accident, a fatal fire, anything, officer-involved shooting…whether it's an EMT, a firefighter, police officer, doctor, nurse, it's to help them with their mental health," Rotunno said.
There are only 11 first responder therapy dogs across New York State, and only five in Central New York, with Chloe and Wally now a part of
