Life just took an unexpected turn for one of the NBA’s youngest players. Only months after joining the league, Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Nikola Topic is facing something no one expects that is testicular cancer.

The 19-year-old guard from Serbia, who was drafted in the first round, known for his calm play and great vision on the court, was diagnosed earlier this month. Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced on Thursday that Topic had a biopsy three weeks ago, which confirmed the diagnosis.

“He has an incredible group of oncologists both at Oklahoma University and MD Anderson,” Presti said. “They are extremely positive about his outlook in dealing with this situation. It’s important to note that testicular cancer is the most cured form of cancer among males.”
