HUDSON — An Army and Air Force veteran in Hudson has a brand-new roof over his head thanks to one local business’ Roofs for Heroes program, aimed at giving back to those who’ve served.
Early Thursday morning, crews from Smith Builders Roofing Specialists climbed onto the home of veteran Roger Gray, ready to get to work.
“Started stripping the roof off, prepped it out with the GAF material. And then now we’re installing shingles,” said Smith Builders owner Ted Murray.
Gray, who served for 16 years, now lives in Hudson with his family.
“It’s a load off my shoulders,” Gray said.
Murray said the roof had seen better days.
“It was leaking. He had a couple of skylights that were old and leaking as well. So we took one out and replaced one for him. Pretty old, cracked, curling, leaking,” M
