The cost of renovating the future Arts and Culture Hub building in Cambridge has more than doubled and city councillors want more information before signing off on the higher price tag.

A report from city staff seeking approval for the additional funding from a core area transformation fund went before council earlier this week.

The cost of the 19 Cambridge St. project now sits at $532,641, more than double the $202,000 originally approved as part of the city’s 2025 budget. The staff report also calls for another $87,531 to be set aside under “other commitments,” adding to the total amount being drawn from the transformation fund.

Coun. Corey Kimpson, who requested the item be pulled from the agenda, said she was uncomfortable with such a large amount being approved so quickly.
