In a landmark step toward making India’s school education system future-ready, the Ministry of Education has announced that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Computational Thinking (CT) will be integrated into the national curriculum from Class 3 onwards, starting with the 2026–27 academic year.

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSE&L) aims to make AI a foundational universal skill integrated with the theme “The World Around Us,” says Sanjay Kumar, Secretary, DoSE&L.

The curriculum design is being developed under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education

(NCF SE) 2023, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The department is working closely with national bodies such as CBSE, NCERT, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Sam
