GREENWOOD, Ind. — Time is running out before a nationwide pause in SNAP benefits due to the ongoing government shutdown.
More than 600,000 Hoosiers rely on SNAP to help feed their families.
The shutdown — nearing its 30th day — means they will go without their monthly check on Saturday.
"The majority of our families will be affected," said Steve Saunders, pastor of the Impact Center at Mount Pleasant Christian Church .
Thursday morning at the ministry's pantry, volunteers restocked shelves with produce, canned goods and bread.
More than 400 families filled their cart with food for the next week.
"We know that there are already some of our members that are concerned and we're trying to not just address the need that they have, but to address the fear," Saunders said.
