For the second time this year, efforts by Mesquite elected officials to streamline city council meetings by eliminating some public comment died when proposals before the council failed to garner a motion to proceed to a vote.

State law requires that local governments offer the opportunity for public comment at the beginning and end of a meeting, or after the public body holds discussion on each action item that comes before it. The government must also afford the public the chance “to comment on any matter that is not specifically included on the agenda.”
