MENDON, MI –– One of Michigan’s most storied high school football programs will advance in the opening round of the postseason.
But without playing a game.
Mendon, the top-ranked team in 8-player Division 2, has won its playoff opener by forfeit after Grand Rapids Sacred Heart announced its decision to concede the game due to a scheduling conflict, Mendon officials told MLive on Thursday.
“It’s absolutely unfortunate,” Mendon superintendent Leasa Griffith told MLive. “Our kids wanted to play, and our coaches wanted to play, as I would think theirs (Sacred Heart’s) would as well. This may have been our last home game for our seniors, depending on how the playoffs pan out.”
