BUFFALO, N.Y. — A tense and, at times, combative Erie County Legislature session Thursday saw Sheriff John Garcia defending his office’s handling of a crash involving Narcotics & Intelligence Unit Chief Deputy DJ Granville, who struck multiple vehicles in April of 2024, as lawmakers pressed him over possible double standards and transparency lapses.
Sheriff Garcia repeatedly denied accusations of a cover-up and insisted his office acted appropriately after learning of the crash.
He confirmed that Undersheriff Bill Cooley was notified the morning after the crash and that Granville personally called him the following day.
