WASHINGTON — The listeria outbreak tied to prepared pasta meals has now sickened 27 people and resulted in six deaths, the FDA announced Thursday.

Federal safety regulators said two additional deaths and seven new illnesses were reported in three states since the last update on Sept. 25. The outbreak is tied to a multistate recall linked to ready-to-eat pasta meals sold at Albertsons, Trader Joe's, Sprouts, Kroger and more.

According to the FDA, 25 of the 27 people have been hospitalized, and one pregnancy-associated illness has resulted in fetal loss.

The last reported illness was on Oct. 16, per the CDC's update.
