COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Governor Mike DeWine signed an executive order Thursday afternoon to provide assistance to families during the ongoing government shutdown.

The executive order will provide up to $25 million for food assistance to help families affected by the potential suspension of federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

The order instructs the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) to give $7 million to food banks throughout Ohio and up to $18 million in emergency relief benefits to more than 63,000 Ohioans, including more than 57,000 children, below 50% of the federal poverty level.

ODJFS expects these families to receive these emergency relief benefits by November 7.
