GARY, Ind. (WNDU) - U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem held a news conference in Gary on Thursday to share some updates about Operation Midway Blitz, which is an immigration crackdown by the Trump administration in northwest Indiana and the Chicago area.

Noem says over 220 illegal immigrants have been arrested in northwest Indiana since the operation began in September. This also includes 146 truck drivers.

“We’ve seen over the years that they don’t speak English, they can’t read our road signs,” Noem says. “When they have road enforcement activities with law enforcement officers, that they can’t communicate with them.”
