Terre Haute, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A new face, William "Bill" Thornton, has been painted on the Gibson Mural in downtown Terre Haute.
"It's amazing that all these people are along here and I end up with them", Thornton said.
Thornton was a cross-country coach at Otter Creek Middle School. There, he met Greg Gibson, who had an unusual request.
"Hey Coach, he says, is it ok if I run to school? I said well Greg, I don't know, I know where you live and it's way out there in the country", Thornton said.
After approval from Greg's parents, he began running and never stopped.
"Bill is the one that got me started with running, way back then", Gibson said. "It's really become an important part of my life. I ran through college and still do it today and I think it was a big boost and a big compone
