CONCORD, N.H. —
A Democratic candidate for governor in New Hampshire is suing to increase the pay of state lawmakers.
Jon Kiper, the lone Democratic candidate for governor, is calling the $100 a year salary for senators and state representatives an unfair barrier.
"This would help young people and working professionals be able to afford to drive to Concord," Kiper said. "This is what every other state does. All 49 of them pay the Legislature something."
Kiper is seeking a declaratory judgment to require the Legislature to boost lawmaker compensation in the next year, and if it doesn't, his filing requests that the court "grant such further relief as justice and equity require."
