WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Nearly a dozen unionized workers at T.F. Green International Airport handed out flyers Thursday to protest leadership's "drastic" decision to cut hours and staffing.
According to Local 32BJ SEIU, the Rhode Island Airport Corporation (RIAC) recently approved a plan to "slash cleaning hours" which would decrease cleaning staff to nearly 50%.
The flyers claim RIAC voted to approve millions of dollars in renovations at the airport while simultaneously cutting 12 positions from the current 27-member cleaning crew. Workers are urging the public to contact RIAC CEO Iftikhar Ahmad and "demand the safeguarding of their current positions."
"Some cleaners have held their jobs at the airport for 20 years, making impending cuts a tremendous source of stress," the union wrote,
