ATLANTA — Delta Air Lines called on Congress to pay air traffic controllers and immediately end the government shutdown, according to a report by CNBC .

The Atlanta-based airline called on Congress on Thursday to “immediately pass a clean continuing resolution” in order to reopen the U.S. government so air traffic controllers can get paid.

Air traffic controllers were out at Atlanta's airport on Tuesday voicing their frustration as the first day without a paycheck arrived for them since the government shutdown began.

“Missed paychecks only increases the stress on these essential workers, many of whom are already working mandatory overtime to keep our skies safe and secure,” Delta said in a statement on Thursday.
