The Benton Township Police Department says it’s working closely with retailers in the area to ensure they’re prepared for potential looting amid reports that some TikTok users are planning mass lootings at Walmart stores.
The department says the purported events are in response to the current federal government shutdown and the pause in SNAP benefits. Walmart has denied online rumors that some stores will be closed Saturday as a result.
Meanwhile, Benton Township police say they’re coordinating with local retailers to be ready and increasing the amount of patrol officers working in the business area of the township in attempt to deter any trouble.
The department asks anyone with information on looting to contact it.
