TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Our Better Call Behnken investigation into a California-based fundraising platform has hit a nerve with non-profits across the country.

A Ruskin animal shelter that relies 100% on donations to operate said it is owed thousands of dollars and leaders there worry about paying bills.

Since 2001, the Critter Adoption and Rescue effort, known as CARE, has served the Ruskin community by taking in stray and abandoned cats and dogs.

Board member Rula Urso said they rehab the animals and offer them up for adoption.
