CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - The City of Charlotte may know who the next top cop is to lead Charlotte-Mecklenburg police sooner rather than later.
Sources told WBTV an announcement could come within days, as early as Friday, Oct. 31.
Current police Chief Johnny Jennings announced his retirement back in May after serving about 33 years with the department.
Jennings took over as police chief in July 2020.
We are told by someone familiar with this search process that, out of more than 100 applicants, there were four finalists.
Charlotte Fraternal Order of Police, told WBTV it has also heard that an announcement could be coming soon.
