President Trump proclaimed “we have a deal” after wrapping up a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping Thursday in their first face-to-face since Trump returned to the White House earlier this year. Trump said that Xi had agreed to a one-year pause on implementing Beijing’s new export restrictions on products made with rare-earth and critical minerals, which could have impacted the global supply of high-tech magnets, batteries and semiconductors.
