BELMONT, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) -- A fire just across the Gaston County line has shut down Wilkinson Blvd in western Mecklenburg County Thursday night.

According to Gaston County fire officials, crews from Gaston and Mecklenburg counties responded around 6:45 p.m. to the north side of Wilkinson adjacent to the Catawba River. That’s where they battled a fire at a metal commercial building.

Westbound Wilkinson is expected to remain closed until 8:45 p.m.

Officials say the building was unoccupied, and no injuries were reported.

There were 50 firefighters who responded to the scene.
