CHARLES TOWN--Judge David Hammer officiated Thursday afternoon at the swearing in ceremony for Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Adam Ward. Ward was appointed to fill the seat vacated by Prosecutor Matt Harvey who was named the U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of West Virginia. Ward will hold the seat until the next General Election in 2026 at which time he would need to be elected by the people to retain the position.
Ward was joined at the ceremony by his wife and children as well as Judge Lindsey Matschat, family judge for Berkeley County. Matschat had previously worked with Ward, she shared after the swearing in took place, adding that she believes he will serve well in the position.
