Just months after a three-car collision that cost one person their life on an East Kelowna road, two teenagers saw their vehicles impounded after reaching speeds of more than 80 km/h over the speed limit.

Kelowna RCMP had begun patrolling the area more frequently after the July 8 accident and complaints from area residents. Last Friday, they stopped two BMWs who appeared to be racing each other on Swamp Road, the same area as the fatal crash.

An officer clocked the two vehicles, both driven by 17-year-olds, at 143 km/h in the posted 60-km/h zone. They were issued violation tickets for driving without due care and attention and excessive speed, and had their cars impounded for seven days. ICBC is also conducting a high-risk driving review.
