Following the successful launch of Vande Bharat Express services on the Srinagar–Katra route, which completed the Udhampur–Srinagar–Baramulla rail link in June, Northern Railways is now working to provide direct rail connectivity between Kashmir and the rest of India, officials confirmed on October 30.

Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of the Jammu division, Uchit Singhal told PTI that the focus is now on overcoming operational and security challenges to achieve the next landmark in Jammu and Kashmir's rail expansion.

After introducing a new two-minute halt for Vande Bharat trains at Reasi station, Singhal described the ongoing work as part of a "dream project to bring Kashmir onto India's railway map."
