Aaron Barron Pintor didn’t think he had a district cross country championship won until the race’s final meters.

Sasha Pash believed she had her district title won the entire race.

Barron Pintor and Pash used different approaches to arrive at the same goal. Both won their first district titles and led their teams to victory Thursday at the Class 2A/1A District 4 cross country championships at Lewis River Golf Course east of Woodland.

A senior from Columbia River, Barron Pintor spent most of the 2A boys race in a four-person lead pack with teammate Wyatt Nitzschke, Sylas Allen of Hudson’s Bay and Cooper Dollens of Ridgefield.

With 1,000 meters left in the 5,000-meter race, Barron Pintor made his move.
