TAYLORSVILLE, Ky. — A Spencer County butcher shop is launching a call to action for deer hunters as 600,000 Kentuckians could face the loss of SNAP benefits this Saturday due to the ongoing government shutdown.
Taylorsville Butcher Block, partnering with the Kentucky program Hunters for the Hungry , is asking hunters to donate extra deer to help stock food banks.
"Harder times with the government shutdown, more people are not able to go in the store and get meat," said Amanda Vaught, who owns the store with her husband. "The meat is the protein you need to survive."
The butcher shop handles the entire process at no cost to donors.
