WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) -- The government shutdown is affecting more than just people, as animal rescue groups and shelters across Wichita say the economy and lack of money are also leading to more owners giving up their pets.
Wichita Animal Services says its shelter took in 382 cats in October and only nine cat owners have come back for them. From situations like these to pets being dumped or willingly surrendered, local agencies want pet parents to know there are other ways to get help and keep their families together.
