KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii (Island News) -- The man who was charged for the head-on crash on Daniel K. Inouye Highway that killed a woman and an infant appeared in court on Thursday where his bail was set at $1.5 million.
Kimo Medeiros, a 43-year-old Kurtistown man, was charged in connection to a Big Island collision that caused the death of 47-year-old Anina Masaichy and a three-week-old infant. The collision took place near the 26-mile marker on Daniel K. Inouye Highway on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 23, 2025.
Police said Medeiros was driving a 2022 Toyota pickup truck, traveling eastbound on the highway, when he overtook multiple cars and struck a 2014 Subaru multipurpose vehicle head-on which was heading westbound.
Masaichy was pronounced dead at the scene, while the infant died days after
