ALEXANDRIA, Va. — A DC area ultramarathoner is combining endurance running and fast food in a new event that's already drawing hundreds of participants.
Michael Wardian and Phil Hargis are behind the planned race. Wardian said as a marathon and ultramarathon runner, he's always looking for new races to run.
Wardian said the idea was inspired by the Denver Taco Bell 50k.
"We saw it on social media, and I know some people who had done it," he said. "Actually, my pacer at a 100 miler this summer, when I was out in Colorado, had done the one in Denver before, and so I knew a little bit about it, and I was like, 'man, we should do that on the East Coast' and thought, we should do it here."
