LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) -- Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits will pause Nov. 1 due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, prompting food banks in Michigan to ramp up operations and the state to pledge additional funding to help families.
“We have withstood a lot of emergencies over the years, and we’re going to be here for neighbors no matter what,” said Michelle Lantz, CEO of Greater Lansing Food Bank.
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer's administration has committed to keeping food on families’ tables during the pause, directing support to organizations including Greater Lansing Food Bank and the Food Bank Council of Michigan. Whitmer announced the state will donate $4.5 million to the Food Bank Council to bolster statewide response.
