Leaders across the political spectrum paid tributes to the “Iron man of India” Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his 150th birth anniversary. Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first deputy prime minister and Home Minister, who played a pivotal role in unifying the nation post Independence. To mark the occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid floral tributes to Sardar Patel at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar and took a ‘pledge of unity’. He also announced the release of a special commemorative coin and stamp as a tribute.
The day is celebrated as National Unity Day in India.
President Droupadi Murmu offered floral tributes to Sardar Patel at Gantantra Mandap, Rashtrapati Bhavan and extended her greetings, describing Sardar Patel as “a great patriot, visionary leader, and nation-builder.
