MINNEAPOLIS — More than one month after a Minneapolis mother was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend despite filing a court order and seeking help from police, Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara ordered an internal review of his department’s response and vowed to implement changes.
“The death of Mariah Samuels obviously is tragic,” O’Hara said on Thursday. “We owe it to her and to her family to do everything that we can to try and prevent something like this from happening again.”
Family members said Mariah Samuels, 34, did everything a domestic violence victim is told to do. She called police, sought help and filed a court-mandated order for protection against her alleged abuser.
