Shahbaz Ahmed feels a deep sense of satisfaction when he enjoys a day out with his family or tucks into a meal knowing he has got it for free or at a discount.

The 47-year-old father is a self-titled “ credit card rewards hunter” as he has mastered the art of using them as a mechanism for reaping rewards, rather than mounting up debt.

Mr Ahmed, who works in senior management in the IT industry, told The i Paper he easily bags himself around £3,000 to £4,000 a year worth of freebies using his credit cards’ reward schemes – and estimates he has saved himself a whopping £20,000 since he embarked on his money saving hobby around six years ago.
